Homes for sale in Rockland have been growing in popularity in recent years. This bedroom community offers convenient access to the Ottawa centre, but still retains a small-town charm that doesn't seem to be going anywhere. In fact, because Rockland maintains its Francophone roots so well, the people and services here tend to become more tight-knit as it grows.
If you've ever dreamed of living in a place where schools, parks, local shops, and community services combine to create the perfect suburban setting,
Rockland real estate is the place to start looking.
Public Transportation
Because so many of Rockland's residents work in Ottawa, the public transportation system makes the commute easy. It takes just 30 minutes to get to Parliament Hill via commuter bus, and several area Park and Ride centres add to the ease of travel.
Shopping
Although you'll want to visit Ottawa for much of your upscale shopping, Rockland offers everything you need to live your day-to-day life. Retail outlets and big box stores are a staple here, and several area malls are just a short drive away.
Outdoors and Recreation
One of the primary reasons people buy homes in Rockland is because of the focus on the outdoors and active, healthy living. In addition to the waterfront park and the Clarence-Rockland Recreational and Cultural Centre, there is a local YMCA, ice rinks offered through the International Hockey Academy, and hundreds of acres of neighbourhood parks.
Golf courses, walking trails, and homes with acreage for raising horses all add to the appeal here. You'll also find a safe and accessible bicycle path, cross-country ski trails for a little winter adventure, and boat ramps that allow you to access the water for fishing and other water sports.
Education
Rockland offers some of the best bilingual education facilities in Ontario. You'll find schools that offer education in French and English, as well as great public and immersion education options. Smaller, private religious schools also exist, which means that you can hand-pick your child's education and path.
Additional Features
Because it is such a flourishing community, Rockland offers just about every type of service you need. Churches and temples, senior activity centres, a public library, adult education, and city hall facilities are open to the public.
Of course, another great reason to move to Rockland is the real estate market there. Home prices in Rockland are much lower than what you'll find closer to the Ottawa centre, and you can get quite a bit more house for your money. You'll also discover that Rockland homes for sale embrace the same community spirit that makes the town so unique. Close-knit neighbourhoods, new construction homes in family-friendly areas, and a high rate of curb appeal all combine to make Rockland a one-of-a-kind place to put down your roots.
People buy homes for sale in Rockland, Ontario for a variety of reasons. For some people, it's a chance to get away from the city centre to enjoy a quieter way of life. For others, the affordability of Rockland real estate means that they can get a lot more house for their money. For still others, it's the chance to put down permanent roots in a Francophone community that really feels like home.
Rockland is also a popular retirement location—and with good reason. In addition to a beautiful setting and a population around 10,000 residents, Rockland offers some of the best housing options in the Ontario real estate market. Here you'll find single-family homes, new development homes, townhomes, and even retirement communities. And because these homes are nestled near community centres, golf courses, and easy access to Ottawa commuter routes, you can spend your golden years making the most out of your home—and doing it with the kind of luxury you've always dreamed of.
The Rockland Community
Nestled on the shores of the Ottawa River, Rockland is one of the most popular Francophone communities in Ontario. Although it has grown in recent years, there is still very much a focus on keeping things rural and community-oriented. That means you'll find prominent golf courses (including Outaouais Golf Course and Hammond Golf and Country) as well as several well-maintained city parks. Some of these parks feature well-tended lawns and sports fields, while others try to make the most out of the seasonal setting in Rockland. Either way, you get greenery and convenience at every turn.
Outdoor recreation opportunities like walking trails and fishing are also popular among the
Rockland retirement communities, since the city makes it easy to get outside and remain active. In addition to a local hockey centre and the YMCA, you can take advantage of community group activities like yoga in the park or summer concerts. Everyday shopping is easy, too, thanks to retail outlets, big box stores, and easy access to one of the largest shopping malls in Ottawa.
Retirement Homes for Sale
There is no one type of home that's perfect for retirement—which is why Rockland is such an ideal location. Here you'll find just about everything. We have homes with acreage that you can use to raise horses or simply enjoy a private view of your own. There are riverfront properties within walking distance of local parks. Golf course homes in Rockland are a favorite among those who plan to spend their retirement on the green.
You can also downsize your life and streamline your retirement by taking advantage of Rockland townhouses or retirement communities. With less maintenance when it comes to your yard and the interior of your house, you can spend much more time on the important things—like exploring Rockland and all that it has to offer!
As a metropolitan centre with over 800,000 residents, Ottawa offers a sprawling, active place to live. The city regularly tops the lists of Best Places to Live thanks to a high quality of life, great city services, and a solid economy.
All these great options and city size mean that it can be hard to choose which Ottawa home for sale is right for you. Do you settle in one of the many historic districts? Find a hamlet that offers the perfect combination of community and urban amenities? Hit the downtown city centre for the perfect Ottawa condo for your lifestyle?
There are hundreds of unique neighbourhoods in Ottawa, ranging from small villages to larger, suburban sprawls. That's why it's important to have an Ottawa real estate agent at your side who knows how to navigate the communities here—and how to match your goals with the perfect place to call home.
Although not all the neighbourhoods are listed below, here is a good example of the variety you'll find here in the
Ottawa real estate market.
- Downtown Ottawa: If a faster-paced life and direct access to theatres, restaurants, and cultural hotspots are what you're after, downtown Ottawa offers an incredible backdrop. Because this is where you'll find a number of government offices and hotels, most of the options in downtown Ottawa residential real estate are high-end condominiums.
- Riverside South Community: Located just 15 minutes south of the main city centre, the Riverside community offers great views of the Rideau River and over 750 acres of parks in which to enjoy it.
- Dow's Lake: If historic charm and great views are what you're after, Dow's Lake real estate offers an incredible chance to enjoy it all. If you're lucky enough to live on the river or overlooking one of the many parks, you can enjoy a bucolic experience just outside the city centre.
- The Glebe: The Glebe is one of the most community-oriented areas in Ottawa. A bustling bedroom community, the houses here range from smaller townhome-style residences to single-family homes with plenty of room to grow. Shops, restaurants, and a tight-knit community centre complete the picture.
- Orleans: Orleans is one of the top-rated suburbs of Ottawa. This well-developed area offers great transportation to the city centre while still retaining a small-town feeling of its own. You'll find a range of housing options, great parks and schools, and many rural spaces that make it feel like you're miles from an urban metropolis.
- New Edinburgh: If luxury real estate in Ottawa is what you're after, New Edinburgh offers a number of great homes for sale. This exclusive neighbourhood offers a mixture of high-end residences, parkland, and upscale restaurants and shops.
While the Ottawa centre has so much to offer its residents, there are also real estate options a little further out—and still with great community options. It doesn't matter whether you want to stay close to capital city or move to a more rural neighbourhood like the outlying Rockland area. When you move to Ottawa, you can have it all.
We recognize that not everyone currently looking at Ontario real estate is in the market for a new home. While residential real estate will always make up the largest percentage of real estate sales in Ottawa, Rockland, and other Ontario locations, some people look to property management as a way to generate an income.
Fortunately, investment properties and homes for sale in Ontario offer access to one of the most profitable markets in North America. Because of the diversity of properties available here (ranging from rental properties in Ottawa to commercial properties in Rockland), you can take advantage of great rates and variety without straying too far from home.
And in many cases, your investment and your house can overlap. By buying an investment home you can live in and enjoy, you can make money and continue to live in one of the top-rated areas in the world. It doesn't matter whether you plan to refurbish a historic Ottawa home in the downtown centre or sit on a family-friendly home in one of the outlying areas; there are opportunities that fit your lifestyle.

Oh well, re-organizing is always a good thing in my opinion helps you re-focus and get rid of ''stuff'' you don't need anymore or haven't been using.
